Head of ICT, Imperial War Museum

“The Imperial War Museum are using the Evolving Networks bonded DSL solution at the Film Nitrate store near Duxford. It was the best solution to allow a site to site VPN to be run between the two sites. Due to the high cost of a fibre circuit for HMS Belfast from BT the IWM are now installing a bonded DSL solution using SDSL and ADSL circuits”.

Bonded ADSL in West Sussex, delivered for TCF Corporate

Evolving Networks, the leading provider of business graded bonded ADSL, are pleased to confirm delivery of a quad bonded ADSL solution to TCF Corporate.

TCF Corporate is a facilitating backbone for the insurance sector, providing a fully outsourced fraud management solution, validating claims and fast-tracking honest policyholders whilst identifying fraud and securing robust evidence for repudiation. The bonded ADSL supply agreement further enforces Evolving Networks’ position as the market leaders for industrial strength bonded ADSL.

Based in West Sussex, TCF Corporate’s rural location means that ADSL lines tend to be slow, and makes leased lines a very expensive alternative.

With TCF corporate moving to a hosted application environment, a high capacity upload and download internet connection was needed. As with all businesses taking advantage of cloud computing solutions, resilience and reliability were also of paramount concern.

During the sales process, Evolving Networks were very consultative, ensuring that they understood TCF Corporate, their business and their needs fully. Evolving Networks were then able to advise TCF Corporate appropriately and scale a bonded ADSL link to meet all needs without the expense of a leased line.

A crucial element of the scaling of the new link, and a standard feature of all Evolving Networks bonded ADSL installations, eView Live provides Evolving Networks’ UK based engineers, and all customers, with real time statistics and graphs, as well as identifying and fixing any network problems immediately.

By providing business grade bonded ADSL in West Sussex to TCF Corporate, Evolving Networks continue to set the bar high for bonded ADSL.

Is Bonded ADSL a business class solution?

Many businesses are feeling the squeeze and have to cut costs to stay competitive in today’s financial climate.  This is a fact of life and impacts on every facet of an organisation.  The drive to cut costs and increase operating efficiency is nothing new, however the almost unprecedented recent events in the financial markets are pushing businesses to address wastage as an operating imperative.

IT and communications are not exempt from this focus, as budgets and processes across all business areas are under scrutiny today as never before.

One of the key areas that should be considered is that of internet connectivity.  Are you paying too much for your internet connection?  The chances are the answer to this question is, yes.  The problem is that with advances in technology delivering applications that require more and more bandwidth, many companies are faced with an ever rising communications bill if they are to take advantage of the technologies that will give them a competitive edge.

An increasing number of businesses are turning to bonded ADSL as a solution.  There are a number of factors that need to be considered when looking at bonded ADSL.  Cost is a major factor, however for companies with an existing leased line infrastructure this is usually a pleasant surprise.  Bonded ADSL solutions are usually a magnitude cheaper than legacy leased line costs.

When considering migrating to a bonded ADSL solution it would be wise to put some thought into the ways in which your business uses its internet connection,  and how best to configure a bonded ADSL solution to meet your business needs.

The majority of business users simply require a high bandwidth connection that staff can use for web surfing and email.  The faster the better is usually the message from the powers that be.  It is usually down to an IT or Network Manager to hunt around for a supplier and make a decision based on bandwidth versus budget.

Bonded ADSL can deliver high download capacity links, with the resilience of built in failover between the bonded links.

When considering a bonded ADSL solution however, it would be sensible to consider the wider implications of your choice.  In addition to delivering high bandwidth solutions, a bonded ADSL link from a reputable supplier has the capacity to deliver huge benefits to any business.

Bonded ADSL means multiple connections delivered as a single data stream.  This bonding architecture means that large files are broken down at packet level, transmitted simultaneously via multiple sessions on multiple links and then recombined at a central point before hitting the internet.

A bonded ADSL solution will therefore increase the data transfer rate of large files.  But not all traffic is large files, not all traffic is internet traffic.  What about VoIP?  Video conferencing?  Site to site traffic?

These are issues you should discuss with any potential supplier.  When discussing a bonded ADSL solution you should ensure that your potential supplier has the technical expertise to support your various data transfer needs.

Ask about resilience as well, not just failover between lines – this is standard in a bonded ADSL solution – rather check the set up of the central infrastructure.  High availability is by no means an industry standard, and it seriously compromises the resilience of a bonded ADSL solution to have all the data routed through a single central “master” bonding device.

In conclusion, a bonded ADSL solution has the capacity to add considerable value to the operating efficiency of a business, as well as delivering welcome cost savings.  However, it is worth taking the time to properly spec both solution and solution provider before taking the plunge.

Evolving Networks supply bonded ADSL solutions to some of the largest companies in the world, find out why the world’s leading businesses trust Evolving Networks for their bonded ADSL, or call 0330 55 55 333.

What Bonding Solution is Right for me?

When reviewing their communications strategy businesses are faced with a potentially bewildering array of options.  With today’s focus on reducing costs and maximising efficiency, companies are increasingly  looking at bonding ADSL as an option.

As a mature technology, bonded solutions now offer a genuine alternative to expensive leased lines.  With faster deployment cycles than leased line alternatives bonding ADSL is also useful for companies looking to relocate or open new premises quickly.

There are however, a number of options to consider when looking at bonding ADSL to provide a business class internet link.

By harnessing the high download capacity of ADSL, bonding multiple ADSL lines together can deliver solutions with massive download speeds.  When bonding ADSL however, be careful to ask the right questions of your supplier about bonding overheads and actual throughput.  Typically, bonding algorithms eat into the TCP/IP layer and substantially reduce actual throughput.

The future use of the link is also a critical consideration when looking into bonding ADSL for business.  If you are intending to send VoIP traffic over a link built on bonding ADSL you need to consider the volume of call traffic and ask searching questions about the capacity of the bonding infrastructure to cope with such mission critical data.

Evolving Networks has put many years experience into the development of the UK’s most advanced bonding solution.   Bonding ADSL through a sophisticated High Availability central bonding cluster located in redundant data centres enables Evolving Networks’ business customers to enjoy leased line performance for a fraction of the price of traditional leased lines.

By using the GRE protocol within the algorithm when bonding ADSL, throughput speeds are massively enhanced compared to many bonding ADSL providers.  With the ability to specify and prioritise traffic within the bonded data stream, Evolving Networks are able to support VoIP and other mission critical traffic over a bonded link.

With a host of technological advantages, one of the fastest data networks in the UK and state of the art data centre hosting facilities, Evolving Networks are pushing the technology of bonding ADSL to the next level.

Data Backup – Can your network cope?

With more and more data being held electronically increasing importance is being placed on offsite storage and data backup solutions.  As a leading provider of bonded broadband connectivity, Evolving Networks are very involved in the provision of data networks to support backup solutions.

The old system of daily backups being downloaded to tape and taken home by someone in the office has many shortcomings, what if the tape is lost?  Stolen?  What if the nominated person is ill or on holiday

Such systems rely on the diligence of the people involved and the truth is that no matter how dedicated you or your staff might be, there will be days (weeks?) when the system breaks down.  And the chances are that will be the day when your server fails.

You might be replicating data between servers and backing up on site, the danger here is either a catastrophic power failure or fire wiping out the whole site.

Why put yourself through the sleepless nights?  The fact is that to ensure that your business can continue to function should the worst happen you need regular, automated backups to an offsite resource.

This may be another office or a specialised facility, either way you need to be sure that your data is being backed up and that the backups are being updated regularly.

Of course the choice of backup system needs to be carefully considered.  If going down the route of a specialist provider you need to be sure that the automation system is compatible with your existing set up.  Ease of data restoration should the worst happen is also an important factor to be clear about.

If you are replicating data between sites then you need to put thought into business continuity and your site to site comms.

The other factor to consider when looking at offsite data backup is, how do you get your data off site to the storage facility?

As a specialist provider of innovation communications solutions Evolving Networks are experienced in providing data networks that have the ability to move data between sites to assist with offsite backup solutions.  We like to explore ways of making a bonded broadband solution work harder for our clients.

Typically a bonded broadband solution would be used as the primary internet link in an organisation.  Offsite backups are usually scheduled to take place outside of normal business hours.  It important to look for a bonded DSL service rather than a load balanced solution with would simply route the single data stream over a single line.

Bonded ADSL offers an excellent technological solution by virtue of utilising all the available capacity across all the links within the bonded solution.  At Evolving Networks we work closely with our clients to ensure bonded ADSL solutions match their business requirements.  Your link may be used for offsite data transfer but it can add an important strategic edge to your communications strategy as well.
